The Sudanese Organizations Forum with the Humanitarian, condemn the looting of food supplies from the World Food Programme ( WFP) warehouse in El Fasher, North Darfur, As an estimated 14.3 million people in Sudan require humanitarian assistance according to the 2022 Humanitarian Response Plan, 25 percent of whom require food security and livelihood support
On the evening of 28 December, the premises came under attack from unknown armed groups. This incident follows the looting and reported violence around the former UNAMID base in El Fasher last week
The NGO Forum is deeply concerned about the reports from North Darfur that humanitarian assets have been attacked. This was food assistance intended for the most vulnerable people in Sudan and such an attack severely hampers the proper delivery of this supportAccording to initial reports of the incident, the WFP warehouse located in the Borsa area of El Fasher city, the capital of North Darfur state, contains up to 1,900 metric tons of food.
This comes amid an unprecedented funding shortfall that the humanitarian partners are currently facing. As of December 29, the security situation was restored, according to state authorities. The Forum is appreciating the role that the local authorities played and preventing the situation from worsening. We urgently ask all parties to adhere to humanitarian principles and allow the safe delivery of life-saving assistance.
